Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir
Red, Valentines, Wine & SpiritsLight to medium-bodied, Oregon Pinot is more finely boned than California Pinot, and displays a wide, aromatic range of flavors including strawberry, raspberry, delicate floral notes, and earthier notes like mushroom and truffle. As with other famous regions that produce this Noble grape, Oregon's Pinot Noir can be as sophisticated and compelling as a fine red Burgundy. While the wine industry in Oregon is relatively young, world-class wines, especially Pinot Noir have come from this cool climate region for years. The heart of the Oregon wine industry lies in the Willamette Valley, and has a similar latitude and climate as Burgundy. Pinot Noir first made its way to this picturesque region in 1959, thanks to the man who is widely credited as the father of Oregon Pinot Noir, Richard Sommers. He planted the first vines in Umpqua Valley and later established HillCrest Vineyard in Roseberg, in 1961. Pinot Noir is challenging to grow, it's a small vine with tight clusters, and is susceptible to issues like rot and mildew. Known as the “heartbreak grape”, it can be a headache for winemakers and vineyard managers alike, yet is grown all over the world, and can command higher prices than other varieties for this reason. Oregon Pinot is excellent paired with pork tenderloin, duck, cedar plank salmon, and just about anything with wild mushrooms.£39.99 -

Red, Valentines, Wine & SpiritsThis beautifully balanced Merlot combines smooth ripe plum and raspberry fruit with some savoury cinnamon spice and a neat medium- bodied texture, finishing on notes of dark chocolate. -
Château Marzy Pomerol 2014
Christmas Cellar, Red, ValentinesBordeaux Pomerol wines are rich, decadent reds, with notes of chocolate, dark cherry, plums and spice, soft tannins and elegance courtesy of the Merlot grape. The most lush—and expensive—wines come from a plateau of clay, gravel and iron, while lighter, more acidic wines come from the region's sandy soils. Situated on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, Pomerol is dominated by small estates that command premium prices. Approximately 80 percent of the region's plantings are Merlot, unlike other regions of Bordeaux where no one grape dominates so singularly; and one disadvantage is that bad weather can wreak havoc on an individual vintage.£49.99 -
EL PICARO – Matsu
Red, Valentines, Wine & SpiritsPicaro means 'rogue' or 'rascal', and this rapscallion of a wine is a youthful interpretation of the Toro region's style. The grapes come from mature vines of over 50 years of age, but the wine spends only three months in oak, preserving their natural fruit profile. Vivid crimson-purple in the glass. Aromas are of ripe blackberries and raspberries, with subtle hints of fresh cocoa. The palate is bold yet supple, with ripe tannins and a mineral grip. Enjoy on its own or with boldly flavoured pasta dishes or spicy meat skewers.£12.99 -
EL RECIO – Matsu
Christmas Cellar, Red, Valentines, Wine & SpiritsEl Recio translates as 'the tough guy', and is a more serious, mature wine, made from the product of some of Toro's oldest vines, which are cultivated using advanced biodynamic techniques. 14 months in new French oak provide opulence and polish. Intense and opaque, this wine is a mass of deep black fruit, chocolate, roasted coffee bean and vanilla pod aromas. Voluptuous and weighty, with a firm structure, held together by silky tannins. A great steak wine, which longs to be paired with rare asado-style beef fillet or sirloin. Drink now or keep for 2-5 years.£16.99 -
