  • Salcombe Gin Start Point

    , , , ,
Distilled to the exacting one-shot London Dry method, this classic citrus-led gin is elegantly smooth, distinct and complex yet extremely versatile

Start Point is created using the finest Macedonian juniper berries selected for their high limonene content and the fresh citrus peels of red grapefruit, lemon and lime which are hand peeled each day prior to distillation. A further nine botanicals including English coriander seed, cardamom, cubeb berries, liquorice and angelica root are used to create this exceptionally smooth London Dry Gin.

Distinct notes of red grapefruit along with heady, earthy pine notes from the Macedonian juniper. It is perfectly balanced with warming spiced aromas on the nose. Rich, full and incredibly smooth on the palate, with a touch of earthy sweetness from liquorice and angelica root. The finish is fresh, lingering and balanced whilst lengthened by green cardamom.

    Penfolds St Henri Shiraz 2013

    , , ,

    ST HENRI

St Henri is loved by generations of wine collectors, providing an time-honoured expression of shiraz. A rich and plush wine when young, gaining soft, arthy, mocha-like characters as it ages.

The nose is full of blackberry fruit, opening up to elements of mocha, espresso bean and tapenade. The medium-bodied, savoury palate is gentlemanly and restrained, yet builds slowly on to the back palate, filling the mouth with dark fruit compôte, spice and a silky tar note. A touch broader-shouldered than last year’s offering, this still has all the poise and balance we expect from this reassuringly “old style” Shiraz.

  • Bodega Norton Privada Family Blend 2018

    , ,
In a nutshell: A rich and powerful Argentinian blend of Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The lowdown: Privada has long been one of Bodega Norton's most well known wines and, rather than just being a straight Malbec it's a blend with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with the grapes coming from old vines between 50 and 80 years of age. It's aged for 16 months in French oak barrels which gives a smooth, velvety character that balances the full body very well. It has rich aromas of dark berry fruits and a great concentration of ripe fruit flavours with a touch of smoke and coffee. Nicely complex with a good structure and grippy tannins that lead to the lengthy finish. When to drink: Rich, smooth and elegant it's just great alongside robust barbecued meats like a rib-eye steak.

  • La Dame de Montrose Saint-Estèphe 2015

    , , ,
Saint-Estèphe wines are powerful, concentrated and rich, with sometimes austere, gritty tannins in their youth, and hallmark notes of cassis, tobacco, cigar box and crushed stone. These full-bodied blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot can age extremely well. Saint-Estèphe is situated in the northern end of Bordeaux's Haut-Médoc, with grapes grown on gravel soils atop a clay base. The soils here have poor drainage, which delays ripening and often results in wines with a higher acidity than those from further south in the Médoc.
